Giancarlo Sportelli received his M.E. degree in Electronics Engineering from the Politecnico di Bari in 2006 and his PHD. degree from the Telecommunications Engineering School of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSIT-UPM) in 2010. During the PhD, he has worked at the Biomedical Image Technologies of the ETSIT-UPM. He has been doing research in Medical Physics since 2008, when he started collaborating with the Functional Imaging and Instrumentation Group of the Department of Physics, University of Pisa (DF-UNIPI), directed by Prof. Alberto Del Guerra.
He has been post-doc researcher for the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (Sezione di Pisa) from 2011 and for the DF-UNIPI since 2012. He is a researcher of the group of Medical Physics of the same Department since 2014. His research interests include digital electronics, semiconductor technology for PET and PET/MR, and in-vivo full-beam PET monitoring in hadron therapy.
